The PM8304 SFM 2x12G is the industry's first 12G SAS to Flash Manager that enables both NAND vendors and server and storage OEMs to design optimized managed enterprise flash solutions using off-the-shelf Multi-Level Cell (MLC) and Single-Level Cell (SLC) NAND devices. The device integrates 2 ports of 12G SAS-3, 16 channels of ONFI-2 and Toggle Mode NAND flash channels, a DDR3- 1600 x40-bit controller, two 900 MHz MIPS 34K CPUs and multiple maxLIFE™ technologies to offer optimal read and write performance while extending flash endurance and reliability.

The SFM 2x12G controller utilizes a ground-up integration of PMCSierra's industry proven SAS-3 storage IP along with a 5th-generation ECC algorithm leveraged from PMC-Sierra's Communications Division offering sub 3 µs correction latencies. Coupled with PMC Sierra's solid state architecture is an adaptable flash management scheme that offers statistics enabling OEMs and drive manufacturers the ability to significantly lower total cost of ownership with higher performance, lower latency, and longer lasting endurance for all enterprise applications.
