Features

The PAS5001 EPON OLT is a gigabit Ethernet chip dedicated for use in an Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) Central Office (CO) OLT device. The PAS5001 integrates the Ethernet Media Access Control (MAC) functionality with the EPON protocol management on a single chip. The PMC-Sierra PAS5001 EPON OLThas been shipping in volume since 2004.

PMC-Sierra gigabit PON devices are based on the GigaPASS™ FTTH architecture that incorporates a gigabit PON to gigabit Ethernet interconnect with wire-speed packet processing and a programmable 32-bit RISC platform. The GigaPASS architecture is a powerful technical foundation on which to build high-speed, high-performance PON network devices.

PROGRAMMABLE DYNAMIC BANDWIDTH ALLOCATION

PMC-Sierra's standard DBA algorithms can allocate bandwidth based on multiple priority levels, as well as bandwidth availability guarantees made by the service provider, to ensure the highest quality of service. In addition to PMC-Sierra's standard programmable DBA algorithms, PMC-Sierra can work with carriers and system OEMs who wish to develop custom algorithms.
